January-May: U.S. Imports of All-Steel Tires Increase by 10% Year-on-Year

According to data from International Trade Big Data and U.S. Customs, from January to May 2024, U.S. imports of semi-steel tires continued to decline, with the import volume decreasing by 5.8% year-on-year to 69.56 million units, and the import value falling by 11.5% to $4.282 billion. The average price dropped by 6.1% to $61.57 per unit. Among the top ten countries and regions for U.S. semi-steel tire imports, only imports from Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, and the Philippines showed an upward trend, with increases of 18.6%, 21.7%, 58.8%, and 6.1%, reaching 17.06 million units, 6.62 million units, 3.26 million units, and 1.83 million units, respectively. Imports from China were 650,000 units, a significant drop of 43.8% from 1.16 million units in the same period in 2023. In terms of import average prices, Japan had the highest at $84.29 per unit, Vietnam the lowest at $36.96 per unit, and China at $38.46 per unit.

 

For all-steel tires, the import volume continued to grow, with an increase of 10.3% to 25.18 million units. However, the import value continued to decline, with a decrease of 4.0% to $3.002 billion, and the average price dropped by 13.0% to $119.23 per unit. Among them, only imports from Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, and the Philippines showed growth, with increases of 28.8%, 43.7%, 191.8%, and 23.0%, reaching 7.49 million units, 3.62 million units, 1.82 million units, and 570,000 units, respectively. Imports from China were 710,000 units, a decrease of 33.9% from 1.07 million units in the same period in 2023. In terms of import average prices, Canada had the highest at $185.59 per unit, the Philippines the lowest at $52.74 per unit, and China at $119.31 per unit.

 

For off-road tires, the import volume increased by 6.4% to 263,000 tons, the import value slightly decreased by 1.3% to $1.044 billion, and the average price dropped by 7.3% to $3,975 per ton. Among them, only imports from China, Thailand, and Vietnam showed growth, with increases of 10.4%, 54.2%, and 43.2%, reaching 95,000 tons, 44,000 tons, and 18,000 tons, respectively. In terms of import average prices, Japan had the highest at $7,487 per ton, and China had the lowest at $2,829 per ton.
