According to statistics, Argentina has a yearly demand for over 500,000 sets of rubber tyres, primarily dominated by car and commercial vehicle tyres. Additionally, agricultural and construction vehicle tyres also hold a significant share in the market.
On May 6, the Argentine Ministry of Economy and Trade Bureau issued Decree No. 384/2024 through the Official Gazette, announcing a decision to reduce import tariffs on various products, including refrigerators, washing machines, tyres, plastic goods, fertilizers, and herbicides. The objective is to decrease import and manufacturing costs, consequently leading to lower prices of goods for domestic consumers.
Specifically, the tariff reduction measures for truck and bus tyres involve a decrease in import tariffs from 35% to 16%. Since tyres play a vital role in logistics services, such as transportation of goods and providing short and long-distance public transportation via trucks and buses, the reduction in tyre tariffs will help alleviate the operational cost pressures faced by freight and passenger transport operators.
