The European Union Deforestation-free Regulation (EUDR) officially came into force on June 29, 2023. This regulation will become mandatory and applicable to most companies starting December 30, 2024. However, provisions allow long-established small or micro enterprises to defer compliance until June 30, 2025, but this leniency applies only to wood products covered under the EU Timber Regulation.
The EUDR requires companies that place or export natural rubber products to the EU market to establish due diligence systems, trace their supply chains, and ensure that their rubber products are not associated with deforestation. This regulation is expected to present unprecedented challenges to the rubber industry and its supply chain, especially for companies involved in exporting to the EU.
On June 4, the EU Delegation to China hosted a seminar on EU-China sustainable supply chains, focusing on the EUDR. The seminar provided a platform for sharing insights and interpreting the EU Deforestation Regulation, highlighting its implications and the necessary steps for compliance.
